Anna Campbell
Ever Your Friend, 2014
Softcover risograph edition, 56 pages, illustrated throughout
7 in. x 7in.
edition: 275

Price: $20.00

Ever Your Friend is made up of fragments of images that Campbell collected during a residency at the Lesbian Herstory Archives in Brooklyn, NY. Photos of hockey teams, bands, erotic imagery, portraits etc. (meticulously documented in the image index) are silhouetted in order to present the subjects' hands in isolation. As Campbell states in the introduction: "That their hands, bare arms, and the objects they hold have been isolated here from the context of those original images parallels the ellipsis of our understanding." What results is a book of that "re-images profound embodiments ... through the sparest of gestures." Published by Issue Press. Numbered.

artist bio
Using sculpture and site-specific installation interwoven with video projection, Anna Campbell’s work deconstructs otherwise clearly legible signifiers of masculinity and heteronormativity in the service of illustrating alternate histories of attachment and desire. Campbell maintains an active exhibition record including solo exhibits at BOSI Contemporary in New York, Tractionarts in LA, and the Window Into Houston at the Blaffer Art Museum in Houston, Texas, as well as group exhibits at Seoul National University of Science and Technology in South Korea, Queens College Art Center in New York, and the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago. She earned a BA in Studio Art from the College of Wooster and an MFA in Sculpture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Campbell teaches sculpture, installation and curation as Associate Professor in the Art & Design Department at Grand Valley State University in Michigan.
